Review Meeting for Feasibility Study Report of Qinghai Golmud 350MW Tower CSP Project Successfully Held
2025.04.25

On April 24, the feasibility study report review meeting for the Qinghai Golmud 350MW Tower CSP Project (the ‘Project’), developed by Cosin Solar, was successfully convened in Beijing.

Attendees included leaders, experts, and representatives from the China Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute (the ‘EPPEI’), PowerChina Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited (the ‘POWERCHINA NORTHWEST’), Cosin Solar Technology Co.,Ltd.(the ‘Cosin Solar’), and other relevant organizations. The meeting was chaired by Liu Xin, Project Manager of the EPPEI.

During the review, participants carefully reviewed the feasibility study report presented by POWERCHINA NORTHWEST and engaged in group discussions. The expert panel unanimously concluded that the project’s preliminary research and demonstration work were thorough, the feasibility study report was comprehensive, and the technical solutions were scientifically sound, incorporating multiple innovative technologies. The successful completion of this review provided critical support for the project’s subsequent advancement.

The Project is the world’s largest single-unit installed capacity project with the longest energy storage duration. It adopts a "three-tower-one-unit" design and is equipped with a 14-hour molten salt energy storage system. The project will adopt the molten salt tower CSP technology and equipment fully developed by Cosin Solar. It is expected to achieve an annual electricity generation of 960GWh, saving 263,400 tons of standard coal and reducing 720,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

As one of the Qinghai Province’s 2024 preferred CSP demonstration (pilot) projects, the project will operate with an on-grid electricity price of 0.55 yuan per kWh (tax-inclusive). Upon completion, it will effectively alleviate Qinghai’s shortage of flexible peak-shaving power sources, bolster the security and stability of the local power grid, enhance the integration of renewable energy (such as wind and PV), and support Qinghai’s goal of building a national clean energy industry hub. Additionally, the project aligns with China’s strategic focus on developing "large-capacity, low-cost" CSP projects, offering innovative demonstrations for the sustainable growth of the solar thermal power industry.
